Our Expectations of You
You have made a positive choice to be part of Sir John Lawes Sixth Form and we expect you to show both enthusiasm
and commitment for your chosen course of study, and for life in the Sixth Form. Success at A Level is highly dependent
upon regular attendance and you should be punctual, both to school and to all classes. In the Sixth Form you will be role
models for all younger pupils. You will be treated as young adults and we obviously expect you to act responsibly. If you are
to enjoy the privileges of Sixth Form life to the full we do expect you to follow some important guidelines.
Sixth Form Dress Code
Sixth Formers at Sir John Lawes have some discretion to
make certain choices about their working clothes, but are
expected to set an example of smart appearance to other
year groups. The Sixth Form dress code is smart and the
requirements are as follows:
Smart jacket or blazer
Smart shirt with tie or smart top
Smart full-length trousers or a tailored skirt or dress of
a reasonable length, as you would wear to an office
Smart shoes or boots (no trainers, casual shoes or
boots e.g. Uggs or converse or similar).
Plain jumper or cardigan (no tops with logos)
No capri pants, shorts or leggings
No chinos or jeans
No spaghetti straps or tops that reveal midriffs
Students must wear their student ID/lanyard at all times
whilst on site.
The majority of our students demonstrate the ability to
make sensible dress choices and are positive role models
to our lower school students. If there are concerns raised,
the decision on what is deemed appropriate rests with the
Sixth Form Leadership Team and the Headteacher.
Other Requirements
Hair must be appropriate for a smart office
environment. We realise that this can be interpreted
differently according to culture and ethnicity and are
happy to accept and value all kinds of smart as long
as these are consistent with the head teacher9s final
judgement. We follow the Halo Code.
If worn short, hair may have a gradual fade but should
not be stepped.
If short hair is worn the same length all over, it may be
no shorter than grade 2.
Hair should be of a natural colour.
No patterns or tramlines should be shaved into the
hair or the eyebrows.
Long hair should be fastened or tied back for practical
activities.
Hair ornaments should not be worn.
Hair bands must be plain and either black, white or
navy.
Whilst ear piercings and one small nose stud are
acceptable, no other piercings should be visible.
No spacers or
